Use of Collar Support System (CLS) from FRANKS

We are running 13% Cr tubing. It is reported that, whilst using a conventional tubing running system (slips), a UKCS team experienced two consecutive cases of the tubing slipping through the slips until the collar landed out; the resulting jolt was enough to set the packer.

We are trying to determine the probability vs. cost to justify use of CLS.

FRANKS are the only ones who provide a Collar Support System that allow the slips to be set with the tubing stacked up at the right height – details attached

Questions :

a. has anyone else experienced similar failures with conventional systems

b. Are there any alternatives to this system ?

Your ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dave Taylor
